Dhoni: An inspiration to all
The Indian cricket team has become one of the most popular cricket teams in the world. But things weren’t always this rosy. Players like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly and a few more gems contributed largely to Indian cricket. However the scenario of Indian cricket took a leap when Mahi a.k.a Mahendra Singh Dhoni entered the field. After his entry into the team, Indian cricket has risen to new heights, setting new benchmarks under his captainship.
The world first saw Dhoni in 2004, when he made his ODI debut. Since then he has played 350 ODI’s, 90 Tests and 98 T20 matches for India. After a three-year journey with the Indian team, Dhoni’s journey as a captain began in 2007. Well a lot of players got the chance to play for India under his captaincy and they’d surely call themselves lucky. They’re true witnesses to his hard-work and dedication for the team and in their lives as players.
Well cards changed for Indian cricket the year he became the captain. It is in that year that India won the Trophy of World T20. Later, he gave us even more moments to cherish. In 2011, he brought home World Cup Trophy. What become celebratory with the world cup was his helicopter shot in the finale. Dhoni, became the first legendary captain in the world to get all T20 trophies with a number one ranking in Test cricket in 2013. This surely proves why Dhoni is the king of cricket. Due to his immense contribution to the game, new changes for the betterment of the game have seen light of the day.
His journey, his insights, his game and his ‘Captain Cool’ attitude under immense pressure is what makes him a living legend. While the world was recovering from the coronavirus, Dhoni bid a silent adieu to his game. He announced his retirement on August 15, 2020 and closed the chapter of his legendary career of almost 16 years. There is no doubt that he will remembered forever and ever and his game will be applauded for years to come.
While the chapter of his international game and his captaincy is completed, his second innings has just begun. He will still be seen playing IPL 2020. His IPL career has also seen a huge success. He won the title of IPL 2020 for 3 years for Chennai Super Kings, for whom he is also the captain. His fans who were ready-eyed about his retirement are excited to see him on IPL.
Dhoni also owns various cricket academy in different parts of world. If nothing but this sure will keep his cricket spirit alive. Reports are suggesting that he is getting invited to show his game in The Hundred in England. So, there is a possibility Mahi is going to show his calm and poker face for quite some time.
Even words fall short to define Dhoni’s contribution to the game. He is still ruling hearts and will always will. He is an exemplary leader who has good wit and a memorable charm.
