Mumbai School Sports Association: a fit approach to school kids
The Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) is an organization for promoting sports amongst the school children in Mumbai. With over 360 schools of all denominations, from across the city, the association, formerly known as the Bombay High Schools Athletic Association, was founded by Sir Dorabji Jamshedji Tata in 1893.
MSSA is the only association of its kind in Asia, organizes and conducts tournaments in 19 games and disciplines – Aqautics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Carrom, Chess, Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey, Gymnastics, Judo, Indian Games (Kabaddi, Kho-kho), Lawn Tennis, Squash, Table Tennis, Throwball and Volleyball – for children between the age-groups of 6 and 16 years. Around 60,000 students participate in these competitions annually.
It was in 1969 that MSSA was granted land from Government of Maharashtra owing to their service in the field of sports for children. Now, the association has an administrative office, full size Football and hockey fields, courts for Throwball, Volleyball, Handball, Basketball, Tennis, Kabaddi and Kho-Kho, 200 meters’ athletics tracks and permanent concrete sitting arrangements for spectators.
In short, MSSA has all the facilities, denominations and disciplines to ensure Mumbai’s young are fit and sporty. And now KheloMore is helping MSSA get digital for all the bookings and tournaments schedules.
